Fairly simple. When adding or removing weight from the ship, all you have to do is divide the weight itself by the TPI for your draft. The TPI is your Tons per Inch of Immersion, or in other words, the number of tons it will take to sink/raise the ship 1 inch. If you know how many tons or how many inches you need/have, you can find what you don't have. Your TPI can be found on the ship's deadweight scale, and changes depending on the draft of the vessel.

Step 1: Calculate amount of weight to be added or removed. Keep in mind that adding weight is referred to as sinkage and will increase the drafts. Removing weight is referred to as rise, and will decrease the drafts.

Step 2: Find TPI from your deadweight scale. Entering values could be draft, deadweight, or displacement.

Step 3: Divide the total weight added by TPI. Answer given will be in inches, and you can easily convert to feet and inches to make your draft calculations easier.

Step 4: Add sinkage or subtract rise from your initial drafts. You should use the same correction for all drafts, as you don't account for Trim until later.
